2015 – Thankful List

It’s That Time of Year – With Appreciation

I’m thankful for many things – all year long – but this year, I decided to let people know how thankful I really am. Aside from the people, places and things I appreciate about the sport, I decided to get down in the dirt and take a look from green side up to share the things for which I am agronomically thankful…around this time of turf, turkey and tryptophan.

Feel free to add to this list. And Happy Thanksgiving!

Equipment Technology

The major turf equipment manufacturers are continuing to design, produce, and distribute products that make our jobs more efficient and technically sound.

Artificial Range Mats

These plastic surfaces are easier on my knees, hips and back as I try to perfect my swing flaws on the range tee. And, I feel guilty when I take a divot.

Sun Protection

My fair Irish skin doesn’t allow me to leave home without sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat. And you should, too.

Public Courses

On my travels, I enjoy stopping at a public golf course, paying a green fee, and playing a round. Along the way, I’ve met some interesting characters – from lumberjacks to the designer of nuclear weapon systems for submarines. Our game is rooted in the daily fee player.

Level Tees, Dense Fairways, Smooth Greens

Speed doesn’t matter to me.

Fast Golf Carts

These help me defy the pace of play studies. The faster I can go, the more holes I’ll play.

Regional Turf Conferences

Low-key, friendly and relevant. I enjoy participating, seeing old friends, and making new ones. Plus, these conferences offer great opportunities to receive concise, thorough information.

Younger Playing Partners

The Millennials make great playing partners. I like their ideas, spirit, and plus, they can see my golf ball when I hit it beyond 200 yards.
